Pregnancy

One of the most important times for chiropractic care can be during pregnancy. Pregnancy can be a time of joy and exciting anticipation but for others it is a time of pain, fatigue, discomfort and illness. One of the reasons for this is that pregnant women undergo so many structural and hormonal changes that effect the spine, nerves, joints, ligaments’ connective tissues, center of gravity and stability.

It is because of these changes, that a doctor of chiropractic can be extremely beneficial. The chiropractor can ensure that the spinal column, pelvis and related structures are balanced, moving easily and free of spinal nerve irritation.

Muscular spasm and contraction is a common result of spinal imbalance, and has been theorized to be connected with in-utero constraint. If the baby is not able to turn well in the uterus, the result can be a breech positioned baby at delivery. This increases the chances of delivery complications and birth trauma to the baby.

Is chiropractic safe for a pregnant woman and her unborn child?

Absolutely! Chiropractic is a gentle, drug free approach that is especially beneficial during pregnancy. By gently adjusting the spinal bones back into their proper motion and alignment; the mother to be experiences pregnancy at a greater level of comfort, health and vitality, and is able to handle the stress of childbirth much easier. In fact, patients have even received chiropractic care during labour. The more natural and drug-free the childbirth, the better.
